About this route
Sámara is the Nicoya beach town people pick when they want somewhere calm rather than somewhere fashionable — a wide reef-protected bay where the swimming is genuinely safe for children, which is not true of most of this coast. The drive runs south through Santa Cruz and Nicoya town, and unlike the Nosara approach it is paved essentially the whole way, which makes it one of the easier Nicoya arrivals.
Route notes: Paved almost the entire route — noticeably smoother than the Nosara road. Nicoya town is the last place for a proper supermarket stop.
