About this tour
There is a particular moment on the Monteverde zip-line when you launch off the platform and the cloud forest drops away beneath you — green canopy in every direction, white wisps of cloud drifting through the tree ferns at eye level — and for a few seconds you are completely weightless and completely silent. Then the cable hums and the adrenaline kicks in, and you understand why Monteverde's zip-lines are considered among the best in the world.
Selvatura Park sits at roughly 1,500 meters at the edge of the Monteverde cloud forest, where Caribbean trade winds slam into the continental divide and condense into a near-permanent cloud layer that nourishes one of the rarest ecosystems on earth. The epiphytes alone — orchids, bromeliads, mosses — are extraordinary, coating every tree branch in layers of green and pink. Your zip-line tour takes you through this canopy at speed, with multiple platforms offering brief pauses to look down into the misty understory.
The longest cable in the Selvatura system stretches over a kilometer, giving you time to actually look around rather than brace for the next tree. Guides are stationed at each platform for safety checks and wildlife spotting, and the operation follows strict environmental protocols.
You don't need prior experience. The guides cover everything from harness fitting to braking technique before your first platform, and tandem options are available for nervous first-timers.
Budget note: entrance to Selvatura Park is not included in the tour price and is purchased on arrival. The drive from San José to Monteverde takes approximately 3.5 hours each way — plan for a full day out.
