Alajuela, Costa Rica
Alajuela is Costa Rica's adventure corridor. La Fortuna sits at the base of Arenal Volcano — one of the most active in Central America — and the surrounding area offers white-water rafting, zip-lining, ATV tours, and natural hot springs fed by geothermal water. Rio Celeste in Tenorio Volcano National Park, with its electric-blue river caused by volcanic silicate particles, is one of the most photographed places in the country. The drive from San José takes 3–4 hours on the Inter-American Highway.
